Osnabrück is nice for a day trip, about an hour away by train or car. If you go by train, getting off at the Osnabrück Altstadt stop is more convenient than the main station. Barösta cafe in Redlinger Strasse is a beautiful stop for a coffee break (just as Cafe-Konditorei Läer in Krahnstrasse).  This Sunday, there is free admission at the Felix Nußbaum Museum  (from 10 am. to 6 p.m.): I have not personally visited but it looks well worth a visit – Painter Felix Nussbaum, born in Osnabrück in 1904 and murdered at Auschwitz in 1944, recorded the experiences of the decades following the First World War in his paintings and reflected upon them as part of his own situation, which the artist, as a Jew, was pushed into by the racist ideology of national-socialist Germany.
For a general look at the city there’s a guided tour in English every Monday at 7 p.m. starting from the town hall.
Thanks PollyEster for the tips!
